    First United Methodist Church of Glendale

    A sacred space — Our art & architectural brochure features a self-guided walking tour of First United Methodist Church’s cathedral-like sanctuary. If you haven’t seen this majestic building in person, visit on a Sunday morning for worship and hear the finest pipe organ in the city. Marvel at the abstract, brightly-colored stained glass windows and rich architectural symbolism. The AIA-winning building was designed in 1959 by architects Flewelling & Moody of Pasadena.

    We were privileged to interview architect Mr. Jean Whinnery who created the symbolism, while researching, writing and designing this project.

    Ascencia is the largest homeless services agency in the Glendale area. Our creative team visited several times, talking with staff and volunteers, and photographing and interviewing current and past residents. We were inspired by the many stories. The report was a successful part of Ascencia’s Capital Campaign.
